Description
Introduction:
Interact Club of Matribhumi Baluwatar for Rota Year 2022/23
campaigned for increase in knowledge about menstruation and how to deal
with it among girls of Sahara Childrens Home. This was not only limited to
teaching them about the different factors of menstruation but also included
training the students to make reusable pads. Reusable pads are a
sustainable and cost-effective menstrual hygiene option. They reduce
waste, save money, and offer comfort and breathability compared to
disposable pads.Reusable pads promote better genital health by providing
breathability and reducing the risk of irritation and infections associated
with disposable pads.
Promotion of reusable pads and spreading awareness on menstruation
was done by holding an event at Sahara Children’s home over the course
of 2 days.
Objectives:
● Train the children to make reusable pads.
● Ensure that the children are well aware about the different factors of
their menstrual cycle, included but not limited to : onset of symptoms,
nutrition, health and hygiene.
● Promote environmental awareness and sustainability by use of
reusable pads
● Create a bond with them and leave a positive imprint about menstrual
cycles, one that is not molded by Nepal’s warped perception on
periods
Project summary:
Over the course of 2 days, We reached the location at around 10:00 AM. The first day started with the introduction of all the members, the trainer, and the children. The main goal of this day was to carry out the training of pad-making led by Mrs. Sarswati Manandhar. Not only did the residents of the Children’s Home learn reusable pad making, but also the members of the club. The entire day was mostly focused on ensuring that all the people involved could learn how to make pads.
The next day was split into completing the making of reusable pads as well as a session on menstrual hygiene delivered by Ms Sneha Bhatta, a trainer from YUWA. The day first started off with a fun session full of dancing and singing in order to make the children more comfortable. After that the pad making was completed. Then Ms Sneha Bhatta delivered her session to the children which included a Q/A session, a visual representation and explanation of the functioning of the uterus and exploring different ways to take care of oneself during their periods. We also took part in the ‘One Club, One Bin’ initiative by donating dustbins to the children’s home. Which further helped the club reach its objective of environmental sustainability via reusable pads. Assistant Director Governor of Rotary District 3292 and past president of Rotary Club Of Matribhumi Baluwatar, Rtn Bishnu Hari Dahal was invited for the closing ceremony. He reviewed the overall project and put forth his support of the project.
Overall donation of grocery items of worth Rs 8,000 was done, from which Rs 5000 was donated by Rtn Subidhya Khanal, president-elect of Rotary Club Of Matribhumi Baluwatar for the rota year 2023/24 and Rs 3000 was managed from the club’s fund.
Conclusion: The event ended successfully with the club being able to
meet all of the listed objectives. We were able to do our small part of
service towards the children of Sahara Children’s home. We were able to
successfully train them to make reusable pads as well as provide a
successful session on Menstruation Cycle and the different knowledge one
should have about this biological process. Thus, the event ended
successfully
